Alliance Magazine highlights Senterra voices in its special feature on the future of philanthropy
Alliance Magazine’s December 2025 issue includes a major special feature, “Farming harm: Is the future of philanthropy plant-based?,” which brings global attention to the opportunities and responsibilities facing philanthropy as factory farming continues to expand worldwide.
We’re especially proud that several members of the Senterra community played central roles in shaping this feature:
Lead article: authored by Zoë Sigle (Senterra staff) and Shweta Sood, offering a comprehensive introduction to the field and a clear case for why food-system transformation is both urgent and achievable.
“In Conversation” feature: a dialogue between Zoë, Shweta, and Senterra member Peter Singer, exploring philanthropy’s role in expanding the moral circle and addressing one of the world’s most overlooked crises.
Editorial on the global cage-free movement: coauthored by Senterra member David Coman-Hidy and Martin Gould of Coefficient Giving (also a Senterra member), reflecting on lessons from one of the most successful coordinated funding efforts in our movement’s history.
Editorial on stigma in animal-focused philanthropy: written by Senterra member Vanessa Johansson, offering a candid perspective on navigating perceptions, bridging the “animals vs. people” divide, and bringing new funders into this space.
The feature also includes excellent contributions from many of our field’s leading advocates, researchers, and nonprofit partners, whose perspectives round out a rich and forward-looking discussion about where philanthropic investment is most needed.
